I’ve had a chance to shoot a couple of weddings in the Caribbean this year, but sometimes you can find the most amazing destination weddings just a couple of hours from New York City. Such was the case at Tyler and Anne’s wedding at The Roxbury Barn in the Catskills this year. When my wife/assistant (wifistant) and I walked in, it was pouring rain and Tyler, dressed in a pair of cargo shorts, was running around the barn taking care of business. Anne and Tyler were another couple I had met during my 101 Days of Travels earlier this year (via Skype) so it took me a minute to place that pixelated Skype video image into the real person. He was incredibly nice and dropped what he was doing to take me into the house to where Anne was getting ready with her lovely sister and bridesmaids. Everyone was relaxed and happy and if the rain was an overwhelming concern, no one seemed to show it.
Surely enough, the downpour passed as quickly as it came. White, wooden chairs were set in the beautiful woods of the grounds where the ceremony would take place. It was a magical evening from then on with delicious food, wine and dancing in the barn. At the end of the night, the barn-keepers raised a massive bonfire — guests were invited to take their individually-wrapped marshellow kits into the woods. And as all good evenings should end, it did so with conversations by the fireside into the night.
Congratulations Anne and Tyler (and Finn!)
